Abstract

The research was conducted to the second grade students of SMAN 2 Brebes. The title of this research is “The Effect of Graffiti Technique on Students’ Ability to Construct Descriptive Paragraph”. The aims of this research are to investigate the effect of Graffiti technique on students’ ability to construct descriptive paragraph and to know their difficulties in constructing paragraph. The experimental method with the design of pre-test / post-test is used to conduct the research. Proportional random sampling technique is used in selecting the sample. The students are divided into two groups; experimental group was taught by Graffiti and control group was taught by Presentation, Practice, and Production (PPP). Pre-test is given to two groups at the beginning of the research, four times treatments and post-test at the end of the term. The result of experimental and control groups show that post-test is higher than pre-test. It shows that the value of t-test is 4.63 and t-table with the level of significant of 0.05 and 0.01 is1.67 and 2.41 with d.f = 46. Therefore, the result can be described by the equation of 4.63>1.67<2.41. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. As the result, it can be concluded that Graffiti technique can improve the students’ ability to construct descriptive paragraph.
