Abstract


The paper entitled “An Analysis Study of Redundancies Made by Students in Writing Descriptive Text” is written to find out the kind and the causes of redundancy in writing descriptive text made by students. The research was conducted to the eleventh grade students of SMU PurwaBakti. The data were obtained through documentation, questionnaire and interview. All instruments are given to twenty-two students who make redundancies in their texts. The document is collected to find redundancies in students’ works. The questionnaire is given to find out the causes of redundancies happened. The interview is done to check the validity of the data from the document and questionnaire. Based on the result of the data, it is found the kind and the causes of redundancyin descriptive text made by students. The kind of redundancy found in students’ works is tautology and thecauses are the limitation of vocabulary, so that they repeat the words that have already been said and they are still confused to apply appropriate words and tenses in their texts.
