THE EFFECT OF “DORA THE EXPLORER” MOVIE ON STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION

Abstract


Pronunciation is one of the important aspects in English, especially in oral communication. Every sound, stress pattern, and intonation may convey meaning. Children have difficulty in pronouncing the words; they find English sound system very strange and hard to pronounce it. By watching movie, students can learn how to speak, how to pronounce the words and how to communicate with other people. One example of children movie is Dora The Explorer. “Dora The Explorer” movie is not only children movie; it is educational movie series that is suitable to introduce English primary level students. The aim of the research is to find out whether teaching pronunciation using “Dora The Explorer” movie affect the students’ pronunciation. The writer uses experimental method to conduct the research. The participants of the research are the third grade students of elementary school. Based on the result, the students who are given “Dora The Explorer” movie can pronounce the words in English more clearly than before. It means that “Dora The Explorer” movie can be done as an interesting method to create a situation that makes the students interested and fun in learning English and help the students to pronounce the word correctly.
