Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research was conducted in the Jonggol area and its surroundings, Jonggol and Sukamakmur sub-districts, Bogor Regency, West Java Province. According to Martodjojo (1984), the research area falls within the continental shelf zone characterized by lithology consisting of claystone, sandstone, and limestone, indicating shallow marine sedimentation. This study focuses on the aspect of provenance analysis of the Jatiluhur Formation to determine the source of the sediments from that formation. The sandstone of the Jatiluhur Formation in the research area falls into the Arkosic Arenite category based on Gilbert's classification (1953). Based on the analysis of sediment source origins, the Jatiluhur Formation was formed in a Magmatic Arc Provenance tectonic setting, specifically in the Dissected Arc sub-setting, where the sandstone originates from plutonic rocks that were exposed due to the erosion of volcanic deposits above them (Dickinson et al., 1983). The type of this Magmatic Arc is characterized by an abundance of feldspar and monocrystalline quartz minerals with few rock fragments (Dickinson et al., 1983). The source of the Jatiluhur Formation sandstone is interpreted to originate from plutonic rocks believed to come from Mount Sanggabuana, which formed during the Oligo-Miocene period, and were subsequently eroded to form the Jatiluhur Formation in the research area.
