DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF DISCOVERY ACTIVITY IN ENGLISH CLASS FOR CHILDREN
Abstract
Discovery Activity is an activity based on Montessori method that can provide opportunities for children to experience and make them can immerse in real situation where they can actively engage, create, and solve problem. The research is meant to know the process of Discovery Activity in English Class for Children. This study was conducted in Sentana Montessori School, Tanah Sareal, Jalan Bango 11, Bogor. The writer used descriptive method. The respondents of the research are two teachers of Kindergarten level in Sentana Montessori School. To get clear description about the process of Discovery Activity, the writer took the data from observation, interview, and documentation. From the data analysis, the writer found that Discovery Activity is useful for the children because it can make them easier and enjoy the materials. The students are more confident and autonomous in the learning process. In Discovery Activity, the students can discover, explore, and solve problem by themselves. There are five areas in Discovery Activity; Language, Math, Cultural, Practical life, and Sensorial area. The evaluation that the teachers give in Discovery Activity is unique. The evaluation does not use scoring system but initial letters, like P for Presentation, MP for More Practice, and C for Checklist.
