TEACHERS DIFFICULTIES IN APPLYING COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND COMPOSITION IN ENGLISH CLASS

Abstract


Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) is one of techniques in cooperative learning that used for helping the teacher to teach reading and writing. However, there is teacher who has difficulty in applying CIRC in English class. Through this research, the writer is trying to find out the difficulties faced by teacher in applying CIRC. The research was conducted to the ninth grade teacher of SMP PGRI Citeureup. The writer applies qualitative research approach, purposive sampling is chosen. One English teacher is taken as the research participant. Descriptive method is used to conduct this research. In collecting the data, the writer uses observation, interview, and also documentation as the research instruments. Teacher’s difficulties in applying CIRC technique in English class such as makes a group in heterogeneously, gives an appropriate text to the students, makes students focus with the material given, leads the students to find the main idea, responses from the text, and writes summary based on the text, asks the students to present their result of group work, applies this technique well because lack of knowledge in applying CIRC, transfers the material, and manages the class and time.
