IMPROVING STUDENTS LISTENING COMPREHENSION THROUGH TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE

Abstract


In conducting this research, Total Physical Response is chosen to improve students’ Listening Comprehension. The participants of this research are the fiftth grade students of SD NegeriMulyaharja 01 Bogor consisting of 34 students. The data were collected from March 26th until April 25th, 2012. The method of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which consists of two cycle processes and each cycle consists of planning, acting, and reflecting. Pre-test and post-test are used to test the students’ listening comprehension. In the pre-test 27 students (87%) belong to poor criteria, four students (10%) belong to fair criteria and three students (3%) belong to good criteria. After the treatment, (32%) most of the students still belong to poor criteriabut another shows the improvement (56.1). In the second cycle, a new treatment is given by applying TPR  in groups of students is added. The result of this research shows that TPR method applied in groups can improve students’ listening comprehension.
