IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO CONSTRUST PASSIVE FORM THROUGH DRILLING
Abstract
Passive form is used when the focus is on the action. It is used to shift the emphasis from subject to object. The agent is not the subject of the sentence or the subject is the receiver. Passive sentence is formed by using the auxiliary ‘to be’ and the past participle of the main verb. Unfortunately, many students cannot construct it well. The teacher should apply an appropriate strategy in teaching passive form which can help the students solve their problems. Therefore, the writer conducted the research with the title “Improving Students’ Ability to Construct Passive Forrn through Drilling”. The purpose of this research is applying drilling in order to Improve students’ ability to construct passive form. The research is conducted to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Bogor. In conducting classroom action research, the writer performed two cycles. Pre-test, treatments, post-tests, and observation field notes are used as research instruments, determines the standard of the students score average is 75.0. the first cycle result was 63.6. after the treatments, the score reached 84.7. additionally, in the second cycle, students’ score is 88.0. furthermore, it can be concluded that drilling is the appropriate technique to improve students’ ability to construct passive form.
