THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS? PRONUNCIATION ACHIEVEMENTAND THEIR ABILITY TO FIND THE RHYMES IN WILLIAM BLAKE’S POEM THE LITTLE BLACK BOY

Abstract

Pronunciation ability is needed to support literary material especially in finding the rhymes in poem. It looks from pronunciation achievement. The aim of the research is to know the correlation between students’ pronunciation achievement and their ability to find the rhymes in William Blake’s poem “The Little Black Boy”. The research is conducted to the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. In the fifth semester, there are six classes and the number of students is 150 students. Quota or convenience sampling technique is used by the writer and she takes 108 students from the population as the sample. The writer applies ex post facto design. The data is taken from the lecturer of textual pronunciation subject and a test of students’ ability to find the rhymes in William Blake’s poem “The Little Black Boy”. Pearson Product Moment formula is used to calculate the data. The result of the calculation is 0.626. it is higher than the score on the table (0.195). It proves that, there is a correlation between students’ pronunciation achievement and their ability to find the rhymes in William Blake’s poem “The Little Black Boy”. Thus, the students who have good pronunciation achievement will be able to find the rhymes in William Blake’s poem “The Little Black Boy”.
